On this day back in 2018, a cheeky Scotty Sinclair back-heel was enough to see Celtic beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the SPFL and climb to 4th in the table as the league season was in its infancy.
Celtic under Brendan Rodgers had seen two successive trebles garnered by the Club, in what was the Halcyon Days at Paradise. Rodgers had brought a slick and smooth possession based football to the Bhoys which had replaced the almost lethargic episode of Ronny Deila. Unfortunately for the fans, this would turn out to be a bittersweet season, as Brendan Rodgers did a midnight flitting to the English city of Leicester in February 2019; leaving the whole club with more questions than answers.
In true PLC style, Neil Lennon would be drafted in after his sacking from Hibernian to take over on a “temporary basis” (where have we heard that before?) and would guide Celtic to another Treble. However, the joy would instantly turn to frustration as Lennon was gifted the job in a shower room at Hampden Park on the fateful day that all but killed the ten-in-a-row dream for many supporters.
Alas, let’s not take away or forget the memories along the way. Aberdeen at Celtic Park was never a worry for Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side, and although this delightful bit of skill from Scotty Sinclair was all that separated the teams, the recently departed Odsonne Edouard nearly had a screamer of his own that day.
Take a look for yourself at the highlights below…
