Celtic legend Chris Sutton hails the excitement of the Edinburgh Derby – while also taking a jab at theRangers ahead of the Glasgow Derby in 10 days’ time…

David Gray’s side propelled to third place in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday and secured bragging rights over Hearts with a thrilling 2-1 victory at Easter Road.
It has been a remarkable comeback in the league for Hibernian, who sat bottom of the table in the early weeks of the season. Gray’s men are now on the verge of securing European qualification for next season with a top six place virtually over the line.

Sutton had high praise for Celtic’s upcoming Scottish Cup quarter-final opponents as he shared his thoughts on the ‘It’s All Kicking Off’ podcast last night. Sutton said: “Hibs had a very iffy start to the season. They stuck with him – quite rightly so, and they are bearing the fruits of that. They beat Hearts in the Edinburgh derby and the scenes after the game is what football is all about. These moments and memories.”

Having heard the replay of the famous Sunshine On Leith anthem (shown above) following Hibernian’s triumph over the weekend, Sutton outlined: “Wasn’t that fabulous? That is what football is about.”
Co-host Ian Ladyman added: “No, I agree. I do like a good anthem. Maybe that should be another one on my list. But I haven’t even been to a Glasgow derby, never mind an Edinburgh derby.”

Sutton playfully dismissed Barry Ferguson’s team’s chances at Celtic Park next Sunday and hilariously cautioned Ladyman against travelling to Glasgow for the fourth derby of the season on March 16.
With Celtic boasting a commanding 16-point lead at the top of the Premiership summit, the Hoops icon said: “I wouldn’t bother with Celtic and (the)Rangers. They have got one in a couple of weeks. But that’s all done.”

Next up for Hibs is the mouth-watering Scottish Cup quarter-final against Celtic at Paradise on Sunday afternoon, with Hibs looking at getting very close to bringing 7000 supporters through to Glasgow.
