‘That makes me smile,’ says Celtic Star, Cluj lose at home to Slavia Prague

ODSONNE EDOUARD  loves the new Celtic chant in his honour yet admits he’s not usually a big fan of the Stone Roses!

The Celtic support was in desperate need of a few new songs for our remaining players. This month we lost Kieran Tierney, who had two songs and earlier in the summer both Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig left the club – again they were privileged to have been given their own song by the support.

Before that Moussa Dembele – another two song player was sold and that happened a few months after Stuart Armstong, who had one of the best songs of them all, was sold to Southampton, who even paid £100 to The Celtic Foundation to buy the rights to our Hair is Fine chant.

Brendan Rodgers also had two songs before doing the dirty on us.

Then there’s Scotty Sinclair. We thought that his song was secured when he signed a contract extension in the summer but this looks like just being a ploy to sell the man with the Beautiful, Wonderful song, as Peter Lawwell tries to move him on to reduce the wage bill. Downsizing in full flow, just as The Green Brigade pointed out on Saturday when they had a silent protest so didn’t sing any songs.

Scotty Sinclair got his song – as did all these aforementioned players, due to their performances on the park for Celtic. Scotty won the Player of the Year in his first season, followed that up by being our top scorer and after three seasons has stats on a par with Henrik Larsson. He’s also won 9 trophies from 9 he has competed in – yet he can’t get near the substitutes bench while Lewis Morgan is getting a game!

Lewis Morgan, incidentally, doesn’t have a song.

So it’s great that Odsonne Edouard has a new song and even better that he likes it. Speaking to the new edition of The Celtic View the French striker gave ‘I wanna be Edouard’ the thumbs up. It’s based on The Stone Roses Stone Roses ‘I wanna be Adored,’ and the striker admits that it gives him a lift hearing it sung.

“I hear the Celtic supporters singing the Stone Roses song with my name in place,” cover star French Eddie told The Celtic View.

“I like it, and it drives me on when I’m on the pitch. It’s normally when I’ve played well, I’ve scored a goal or I’ve been close to scoring.

“The Stone Roses aren’t really my style of music, I’m more into rap music, so it’s not normally the kind of song I’d listen to in my own time.

“But I love listening to it during the game! Hearing the Celtic fans singing it makes me want to play well and work harder for them.

“That makes me smile.”

Now how do we go about getting a song for James Forrest? Any ideas? Here’s one…

Meanwhile Celtic have confirmed the details for the League Cup Quarter final against Celtic Park. The game will be played on Wednesday 25 September with a 7.45pm kick-off and the match is NOT being shown on BT Sport.

And Cluj were in action tonight in the Champions League Play-Off round, losing 1-0 to Slavia Prague in the first leg played in Romania. Cluj hit the post and missed a penalty in the second half as they tried to get back on level terms. Neither side were particularly impressive.

Maybe we’ll end up getting Cluj in the Europa League group stages if we get past AIK. That would be interesting.

  1. What about a James Forrest song, a player who clearly loves Celtic and does it quietly without fanfare, and isn’t offski south the first sign of interest?
