Finnish goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo spoke to The Celtic Star yesterday morning ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ side’s trip to McDiarmid Park tomorrow as Celtic look to secure the first of three wins required to kick-off a remarkable 13th title celebrations in the past 14 years….

Q4 from The Celtic Star: We often hear from former Celtic goalkeepers the influence Stevie Woods has on developing players, how important has he been since your arrival last summer?
Viljami Sinisalo: “He’s been really important. Like I said before that I have been lucky in my career to work with great goalkeepers, but I have been lucky to work with brilliant goalkeeping coaches as well – Woodsy has been definitely one of them. The work that we do on the pitch and off the pitch has been excellent and I feel I have developed as a goalkeeper and a person since I have come to the football club. So, he’s been brilliant, the stuff we do analysis wise and the detail we do on the training pitch has really helped us.”

Q5 from The Celtic Star: I’m interested to find out how mentally challenging this season has been for you personally, you went from playing 50 times for Exeter last season to only featuring twice this season, how have you found that?
Viljami Sinisalo: “Listen, all footballers want to play. Everyone wants to go in and play every week, I knew the situation when Kasper came in and when I came into the football club, and it was a long-term plan. Yeah, in a way it has been difficult, but I know what is expected of me and that opportunity that has now come I knew was going to come at some stage anyway. So, I have just had to be ready for that and train as well as I can every day and try and develop and be ready for that opportunity for when it arises.”
Q6 from The Celtic Star: Looking ahead to Sunday, three consecutive wins from the title, how excited are you at this stage of the season knowing you will play a huge role in that?
Viljami Sinisalo: “Yeah, one game at a time and the most important one is Sunday, but yeah it is exciting. It’s games that every footballer wants to be involved in, and every footballer wants to play for big things which we are doing at the minute. We are all focused on the game on Sunday, and we’ll look to get three points and go from there.”

Viljami was thoughtful and articulate when answering questions from The Celtic Star and a few other Celtic Fan Media and has been impressive in the two games he has started for Celtic. Hopefully he has all the makings to become the Hoops’ future no.1 shot-stopper.
