‘Browny?’ “He loves it here, he’s been top class and we want him to stay,” Brendan

BRENDAN RODGERS today responded to the speculation surrounding the future of Scott Brown.

The Celtic manager was asked about his skipper’s future at the club amid speculation this morning that linked the 33 year old with a move to the MLS with both Kansas City and Minnesota United credited with an interest in luring the former Scotland captain Stateside.

And a few weeks ago there was a slightly far fetched story linking Broony to a club in Australia – Western Melbourne FC – that doesn’t even exist yet. Brendan Rodgers though has seen all this type of speculation before and he is perfectly happy allowing Scott Brown the time to consider his options and that also includes, of course, signing his new deal at Celtic.

“I said before, it’s just time, let that run,” Brendan said at today’s media conference at Lennoxtown.

“If anyone has deserved time to make a decision, it’s Scott.

“He has every right, if he has options for this last period of his career, he needs the time to look at that.

“That shouldn’t be taken by any Celtic supporters that he doesn’t want to be here.

“He loves it here, he’s been top class and we want him to stay, but like all players at that stage of their career, he’ll have to look at it for himself and his family.”

If they are looking at an experienced player at the end of his career, maybe Brendan could recommend to Kansas City and Minnesota United our German defender Marvin Compper?

If the Celtic manager is perfectly relaxed about the future of his captain, he is a little more focused on the matters at hand when it comes to strengthening his squad for the challenges that 2019 will bring at home and in Europe. After the frustrations from the summer window, Rodgers wants to ensure that January’s activity is more successful.

“We’re assessing targets in the areas we want to strengthen and improve.

“January is an important window,” he admitted.
