Celtic and Rennes coordinating Jota and Kyogo signing announcements

As per reports coming out of France today, Celtic are the ones delaying the Kyogo Furuhashi move to Stade Rennais as they want the deal to coincide with Jota’s move back to Celtic Park…

Both men have headed in the opposite direction and it had been assumed that the deal would be finalised this weekend, when Brendan Rodgers said he expected it to go through in the next 24 hours or so at his media conference on Friday afternoon.

That seems to have gone up in the air though, as the club are still trying to iron out the finer details of Jota’s contact and the return details which will confirm his move to Glasgow once more.

Failed medical rumour has been doing the rounds

It’s been an agonising wait for the Celtic supporters and many had hoped we’d see that announcement over the past couple of days. Much to everyone’s annoyance however, it’s still waiting to be finally signed, sealed and delivered. The inevitable rumours – this time that Kyogo’s shoulder issue – has resulted in a failed medical at Rennes appears to be wide of the mark.

And this morning Western France’s top newspaper Ouest-France have indicated that it is Celtic who are holding the deal up as they don’t want Kyogo Furuhashi to be announced as a Rennes player without Jota being able to unveiled at the same time back home.  The club always have form for this sort of thing and will no doubt be trying to pitch the idea that we haven’t weakened the squad at all.

But in the cold light of day, as things stand, we are exponentially weaker and the club must rectify this in the coming days ahead to give the manager a fighting chance in European football.

Kieran Tierney deal still possible

The boss is still hoping that a deal for Kieran Tierney’s return can be worked out with Arsenal so he can return to his boyhood heroes this month, instead of in the summer on a pre-contract agreement. Meanwhile, we are still needing another striker now that our talisman Kyogo is leaving for pastures new. Mathias Kvistgaarden has been strongly linked and is believed to be one Rodgers really likes, although Brondby are holding out for a club-record fee clearly aware of Celtic’s current striker predicament.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
