Celtic Miss Out on Highly-Rated Defender

Everton have signed highly rated youngster Jarrad Branthwaite from Carlisle. Branthwaite has signed for Carlo Ancelotti’s side on a two-and-a-half year deal and will play in the U23s on Merseyside.

In December, Celtic’s Nick Hammond was said to be scouting the young defender but now it is apparent that Celtic have lost out on the 17-year-old.

The 17-year-old has made a splash in League Two this season after breaking into the first team; however, the 6ft 4 colossus has drawn attention for his commanding displays in the games that he has played.

A number of teams were interested in the youngster’s progress and it is believed that the Good is on Park side paid a figure around £1 million to prise him away from Carlisle.

Whether Celtic had any real interest will never be known as the player signs on the dotted line for another team; however, it follows a pattern of Celtic scouting youthful prospects in England.
