Celtic sign right back Moritz Bauer on season long loan deal, with option to buy

CELTIC today signed right back Moritz Bauer from Stoke City on a try before you buy deal. The 27 year old Austrian international defender has joined the Scottish Champions on a season long loan deal, with Celtic having an option to buy in the summer.

Bauer, who has made 26 appearances for Stoke over the past two seasons, has fallen out of favour so is keen to get back to playing regularly in Scotland.

“I’m really, really looking forward to it,” he said of joining the Scottish Premiership club,” the former Grasshoppers Zurich and Rubin Kazan right back said to the media, as reported by BBC.

“It’s a massive club with a big history and when you see the stadium from the outside and the players there who have already worn the jersey – they are big names.

“I love having the target of being first as I like that pressure. There are players here who have already won titles, and it’s a big opportunity for me to learn from them and grow as a player.”

Bauer’s name was first mentioned by a poster on Kerrydale Steet forum today who suggested that Celtic would indeed make the three signings that Neil Lennon was talking about on Sunday. Three names he mentioned were…

Fousseni Diabate (loan – Leicester City)
Moritz Bauer (loan – Stoke City)
Birger Meling (£2.5m – Rosenborg)
