Celtic will play Hibernian in League Cup Final on Sunday 19 December

Celtic will play Hibernian FC after the Edinburgh outfit dumped theRangers out of the League Cup Semi-final to set up a date with the Hoops come Sunday, 19 December. Many had anticipated a Glasgow Derby Final, in a repeat of the 2019 Legaue Cup Final. However, Jack Ross side had other ideas today.

Hibs were undoubtedly the better of the sides today, defending vigilantly and attacking with razor sharp incissiveness which the opposing side just had no answer for. Hibernian’s dynamic duo, Kevin Nesbit and Martin Boyle were instrumental in everything well that Hibs done in the attacking half of the pitch. The difference that occurs when Nesbit has somebody up playing next to him is undeniable. Something that Jack Ross will look to utilise against Ange Postecoglou and his team come the December final.

The game was explosive for large parts, with Hibs’ hunger and desire shinning through – something that was not emulated on the opposite side today. After the game theRangers Conor Goldson conceded that they have lost a lot of the desire from last year since becoming champions for the first time in their history. A warning sign that should be flashing at Ange and his players as we gather pace in this campaign. The fear is palpable in the other side of Glasgow, revealed in the tepid and fearful cup performance this afternoon in Mount Florida.

Again, though, we cannot take anything away from Hibs. If they played like this more often they could make this two-team league a three-team league for sure. The much loathed Ryan Porteous rubbed salt into the wounds of his opponents – with him having been targeted by the Sevco fans continually – when he had a tremendous game at the Hibernian rearguard. He will be proud of his performance today and will no doubt looking to take another scalp in Celtic, as will all his comrades.

Celtic must take note of the game today and not be lulled into a false sense of security in December. The amount of desire Jack Ross’ men put into the game was there for all to see and should serve as a reminder of what can happen if you don’t show up in cup ties. The final should be an excellent game with a sea of green and white on display all across the national stadium. We must make sure we don’t slip up like theRangers did today and bag our first piece of silverware under the Ange Postecoglou rein.

The treble is on folks!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
