Hanlon Hopes Lennon’s Hibs Mentality Haunts Celtic

Paul Hanlon has indicated that he hopes to draw on the mentality that Neil Lennon instilled in Hibs during his two-and-a-half year term at Easter Road. The Hibees have taken at least a point in six of the last twelve meetings and Hanlon hopes that Jack Ross’ side can take something from the Champions at Celtic Park today.

Lennon has left a lasting impression on Hanlon, who hopes that the mentality can be drawn upon to deliver a positive result for Hibs.

“During that spell we really believed we could go there and take points.

“It wasn’t a case of just in Glasgow — he demanded we won every game we played!

“That’s just the way it was. We are at a big club, the demands are there and we want to win every game.

“We know that is unlikely but we don’t go into any match with fear, ready to lie down and accept defeat.”

Hanlon spoke highly of his relationship with Lennon, stating that the Irishman proved his worth at Hibs and is continuing to impress now he’s back at Celtic.

“I had a great relationship with Neil here — it is probably one of the spells where I have played my best football.

“He showed real belief in me. It helps when you have a good squad, we achieved promotion and did really well when we came back up.

“It was a good time to be involved and we had a top manager, which he has obviously proved by going back to Celtic and doing so well.”

The 29-year-old was an integral part of Lennon’s teams that navigated the Scottish Championship and lead a charge up the Premiership with Lennon at the wheel. After Paul Heckingbottom’s reign ended, ex-St Mirren boss Jack Ross stepped into the hot-seat at Easter Road.
