‘It’s a great club and the fans are incredible,’ Two Goal, Man of the Match Bayo

HE scored two, reckons he should have had three but bitter Craig Levein, backed by the pundits on Sportscene last night reckoned he’d scored none. It was certainly an eventful day for Bayo as he made his full debut for Celtic in the glorious August sunshine at Paradise.

Bayo arrived at Celtic at the end of December from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda. The £2million striker, who has been hammered by an ongoing hamstring problem, has at last got himself fit and yesterday, with Odsonne Edouard being rested up for Stockholm and Govan, he was given his chance to show what he could do.

His contribution to the match won him the Man of the Match award and had Craig Levein raging so what’s not to like. Bayo is having none of the Hearts manager’s Two Own Goals claims either.

“I should have scored three and the manager told me that as well!” Bayo said afterwards to the media as reported by Sky Sports.

“He’s been great with me since I arrived and he speaks to me and encourages me all the time.

“I have benefited by the encouragement and it has paid off with me scoring.”

Bayo scored his two goals and almost got a third when he headed a wonderful James Forrest cross against the post. He looked a little tired at that point and had been cramping up just before his hat-trick chance. He was then replaced by Leigh Griffiths and was given a thunderous standing ovation. He’s even getting his name chanted after ONE game, Forrest has been waiting one DECADE for the sort of acknowledgement.

“It’s a great club and the fans are incredible,” Bayo said.

“This was my first chance at starting and there were lots of people watching so I was amazed by that.

“It’s just part of football and the fans make it. The fans were happy and they understand I have been waiting for this.

“When I arrived I was really happy and then I suffered the injuries but the manager has been happy with me and the progress I was making but I had to be patient with it.”

Bayo may have started his journey to Paradise at the end of December but yesterday he finally arrived.
