League Cup Quarter Final Draw – Celtic v Partick Thistle

CELTIC have been drawn at home against Partick Thistle who knocked out Premiership side Ross County yesterday. Celtic and Thistle met last season in this competition at Firhill with Celtic winning 3-1.

The full draw is as follows…

CELTIC v Partick Thistle

Kilmarnock v Hibs

Hearts v Abderdeen or Dundee (Aberdeen 2-1 up at the moment in Extra Time).

Livingston v the Rangers

Games will be played Tuesday 24 September, Wednesday 25 September or Thursday 26 September.

Pundits Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart made the draw live on BT Sport from Methil after East Fife lost 3-0 to the Rangers, who continue in the competition, seeking their first ever major honour after Founding Father Charles Green launched the club in the summer of 2012, buying the assets of the old football club from Administrators as Rangers FC plunged into liquidation.

Celtic yesterday began the defence of the League Cup by defeating Dunfermline 2-1 at Celtic Park with the goals coming from Mikey Johnston and a winner from James Forrest in the second half of extra time.

Celtic are aiming to win this trophy for the 19th time and the fourth in a row having won the last three finals against Aberdeen (3-0), Motherwell (2-0) and Aberdeen again 1-0) with Ryan Christie getting the most recent winner – read David Potter’s feature that game HERE.

Celtic’s biggest win in the final of this competition occurred against Rangers on 19 October 1957 when goals from Wilson, Mochan (2), McPhail (3) and Fernie sent The Celtic supporters into ecstasy in the Hampden in the Sun, Celtic 7 Rangers 1 game.

Celtic’s worst result in the final of this competition came against Quarter Final opponents when Partick Thistle beat Jock Stein’s fine Celtic side 4-1 in the 1971 final – that incidentally was my first ever visit to the National stadium!
