Leicester plan to sell striker for £20m to try and fund a move for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard

The rumours linking Brendan Rodgers to his old Celtic players just won’t go away, and a potential move for Odsonne Edouard has been in the press for a few days now.

It was hoped that this might die down after Eddy dropped a big hint that he was staying next season, but it mainly seems to be the English press who probably don’t pay any attention to what actually happens with the players they are linking with a move.

The latest comes from The Mail via The Leicester Mercury, and they are indicating that Rodgers wants Eddy to act as the long term successor for Jamie Vardy, but it’s likely he would cost around £35m.

In order to clear space and to raise the funds they go on to suggest that they hope to sell Kelechi Iheanacho for around £20m, but there’s no clear sign of a team who wants him at this point.

Of course it’s an easy link to make, but it just doesn’t seem to make much sense at this point.

Again it likely comes down to the English press not understanding the situation at Celtic and the importance of the 10IAR season, where the players know they can become legends.

The other issue is that Jamie Vardy does seem undropable at this point, so why would Edouard want to trade a season of being the main man and developing to suddenly being an understudy to somewhere else?

Eddy celebrates again

There are so many reasons that it would be worth him waiting at least one more season, and the history of Brendan Rodgers should also act as a warning.

Wherever he has been his teams tend to drastically drop off after his first two seasons, he starts looking for excuses and will then leave or get sacked.

There’s no guarantee that Leicester will be anything more than an average mid table side in a couple of seasons, so another excellent year at Parkhead can allow him to make a truly big move next summer.

From Celtic’s point of view that will ideally result in Eddy being a 10IAR hero and his value will only increase if he keeps improving, so hopefully nothing actually comes of this interest this summer.
