Mixed Covid-19 news for Celtic ahead of AC Milan as star returns but Odsonne Edouard forced to miss out

It’s no secret that Celtic were severely hampered at the weekend due to injuries and players being forced to isolate due to Covid-19 issues.

The situations were completely mixed with Eddy and Nir Bitton testing positive for the virus but experiencing very different things.

The Frenchman seemed to be fine and he’s being frustrated by protocols just now, while Bitton admitted that he was struggling to stand up at one point so that’s genuinely worrying to hear.

The circumstances surrounding Ryan Christie were much more farcical when he was forced to isolate alongside Kieran Tierney despite no positive test, and the defender was allowed to play for Arsenal on Saturday while Christie had to sit out.

A report from Glasgow Live has looked at the situation ahead of the AC Milan game on Thursday, and there’s some mixed news here for Celtic again.

At least Ryan Christie will finally be allowed to return so that is some good news, although he has been forced to isolate so you worry that a lack of fitness and sharpness could be an issue.

The big blow comes with Eddy being forced to sit out again, and there’s two major issues for Celtic here.

Obviously the main one is having him missing from the team from a result point of view – he’s crucial in the attack and you fancy he would have the quality and the physicality to really trouble the Milan defence.

Secondly the club will eventually have plans to sell him and the current financial situation in the game will hurt transfer fees, so a big performance against a big team in Europe would help Celtic in any negotiations.

It sounds like he might be back to face Aberdeen at the weekend but that’s not completely clear for now, but there’s no doubt this is not what Lenny would be hoping for.
