‘My phone was non-stop’ after Beautiful Sunday admits Jonny Hayes

BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY goalscorer Jonny Hayes has been speaking to the Celtic View about that injury time strike as Celtic hit the Rangers with a devastatingly effective counter-attack to wrap up the points with a second goal of the afternoon.

Hayes fired the ball into the Rangers net then ran over to the small band of ecstatic Celtic Supporters in the corner to take the applause as Ibrox emptied pronto.

Yet the Irishman has played down the goal, stating that all Celtic won that day was the same three points that they pick up for winning any other league match. We’re not really buying that one Jonny!

“I’m not sure how I sound or come across saying this but, for me, it was just a goal,” Jonny said. Perhaps he didn’t hear the support chanting his name at Hamilton at the weekend when he was warming up before coming off the bench?

“It was done and dusted and the game was won and then that was it.

“I’ve seen all the reaction and had people coming up to me talking about an Irishman scoring at Ibrox, but I just see it as doing my job. I don’t look into it too much.

“My phone was non-stop after that and it took me a few days to get back to people. There were people I played with 10 years ago that were texting me or messaging me over Instagram which has been nice,” Jonny stated, as reported by the official Celtic website.

“All I was thinking about when I scored it was that’s the three points in the bag and the game done and dusted.

“Maybe that’s just the attitude of the managers I’ve worked under rubbing off on me, in so much as you don’t dwell on the success too much because you need to get ready for the next game.

“You don’t have time to sit back and reflect on things for too long, especially here with all the games coming thick and fast.”
