Neil Lennon says that the Rangers situation is ‘irrelevant’ to him

Neil Lennon’s Celtic and Steven Gerrard’s the Rangers will take on each other in today’s League Cup final at Hampden. Heading into the game, the Celtic manager gave his thoughts about Sunday’s match and described the Rangers situation as ‘irrelevant’ to him.

Celtic have already managed to get one over their bitter rivals this season when they walked out with a 2-0 victory from Ibrox in the first derby of the season. While that match had three points on the line, Sunday’s game has the Scottish League Cup up for grabs. And whoever manages to get the win will get a huge boost for the rest of their season.

Celtic are the team with momentum on their side at the moment. They lead the Premiership by 2 points, have already qualified for the knockout phase of the Europa League and will be looking to win their fourth consecutive League Cup title. The Rangers, on the other hand, will be the desperate of the two sides as they continue to search for a major trophy. They had earlier lost the Scottish Cup final to Hibernian in 2016.

Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the big game, Neil Lennon had some interesting things to say regarding his mentality going into the game. The Celtic boss said:

“We have our focus, our ideas on why we want to win, regardless of what it means to Rangers. It’s irrelevant to me.

“It’s just another game with a trophy at the end of it. We don’t take it for granted, you can see the players don’t take it for granted.”

That is exactly the attitude that the fans would have been expecting from the manager as Celtic look to continue their relentless pursuit of trophies by adding another trophy to the cabinet and cap off a wildly successful decade.
