Rodgers Shocker! No skipper, Griffiths or Rogic for Leipzig test and Forrest is suspended!

BRENDAN RODGERS had some bad news for the Celtic support this afternoon as he gave an injury update after arriving in the trip to the east German city of Leipzig for tomorrow’s Europa Cup match.

They say that these things come in threes and it was a triple whammy that was delivered by the Irishman today.

1. CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS – THE FIRST CASUALTY

“Scott Brown will be out for the next 2-3 weeks with a calf strain.”

2. STRIKING OUT – NO GRIFF!

“Leigh Griffiths hasn’t returned to training yet.”

3. MIDFIELD MAESTRO – WIZZARD MISSING!

“Tom Rogic hasn’t travelled. He has an issue with his knee and we’ll look at that when we’re back.”

If you need a wee lie down after that we won’t blame you. Brendan will just have to get on with it and work with what he has and remember James Forrest is suspended for this game after being sent off in Salzburg a few weeks ago.

And Filip Benkovic is also being monitored ahead of this crucial game against RB Leipzig.

“We’ll see how Filip Benkovic is over the next 24 hours. We have a number of young players and other players that may have the opportunity to play and I’m looking forward to that,” the Celtic manager stated.

“It’s key we think about performing well. It’s about playing with confidence and not frightened to make mistakes.

“We are going to be playing against a top team but we have to show our way and our method of play. When we do that, we know we can cause problems.

“It’s pretty clear they are a very good side. The next two games are going to be very important. To have the opportunity to take a result from the game, we need to perform at a high level. We know how to do that and we’ve brought our form back into the game.

“For us, it’s about starting the game well and being consistent in the performance. We know we have to defend well.

“We come here with confidence. Our last couple of performances domestically have been very good. The speed of our game is returning.”

Even thinking about a possible team is tricky. Maybe Brendan will go for something like this…

Gordon

Lustig Benkovic (if okay, if not Simunovic) Boyata Tierney

Mulumbu Ntcham

Christie McGregor Sinclair

Edouard
