Former Celtic star Stiliyan Petrov has urged the Celtic Board not to do anything silly that would risk losing a top manager like Brendan Rodgers…
And the Bulgarian has also spoken about his son Stiliyan Petrov Jnr getting involved in active politics in England by becoming a Reform candidate for Nigel Farage’s nasty party. We’ll start with that shall we?
“First of all I’ve never been into politics, I never will be,” Stan Petrov, the former Celtic and Aston Villa star said, as reported by Glasgow Times. “My son is passionate about the world and I’ve encouraged that strongly.
“Even though we haven’t agreed in certain cases, he is his own man. He is an independent, young individual, who works hard, is happy to help the community, and you know what, he’s a young man who draws his own path in life and you know what, with the young kids now, they’ve got their own choices. But like I said, I’m miles away from politics, I don’t have an interest whatsoever.”

Petrov also spoke about the Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers who he would like to see tied into a new contract at the club. There was a bit of a media frenzy after Brendan’s comments on Friday afternoon about his own position at the club. This was clarified by Rodgers both before and after the 5-1 win over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park on Saturday.
“He’s done a great job”
The Celtic manager emphasised that he said he’d definitely be at Celtic for the three years of his contract when he returned in Jun 2023, and unless he hears otherwise from Dermot Desmond this summer that remains his position.

On any contract extension it’s really a matter of what and see but the Celtic manager’s conversations with the Irish Billionaire this summer should sort that out, hopefully with Brendan agreeing a bumper new long-term contract and being given the assurances that he will be backed in the transfer window with the Champions League in mind.
“He’s done a great job, Stan Petrov said. “I think it will be silly from the board not to continue with Brendan. So far, he hasn’t given any reasons for the board or the fans to think anything else.
“I’m sure that the board is looking into it”
“I’m sure that the board is looking into it because he’s Celtic through and through and he’s a great manager. He knows the club inside out, he knows the players as well now, and he’s got the opportunity to add his own players that he feels can help the team develop.
“We all remember that when Brendan came to the club, he was talking about the European adventures, that he wanted to achieve a lot more with Celtic in Europe, so that will be his intention.”
“I don’t think he worries about domestically, he has a strong team, good players, healthy squad and he’s quite happy with that,” Petrov, said. “But I think with his comments, he tried to challenge the board, and now the board needs to answer. What they have to do is just go and spend money.
“I’m sure that Celtic will do that because what I’ve seen over the year, their recruitment has been really good. The development of the players has been great.”
