‘The Livingston game was at the back of our heads,’ Elyounoussi on Celtic’s Pittodrie Motivation

MOHAMED ELYOUNOUSSI put in his most impressive performance to date for Celtic yesterday in the 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at Pittodrie, then insisted that this Hoops side are about to get even better!

All the goals were scored in the first half, with Derek McInnes afterwards being grateful for Celtic’s Thursday night exertions against Lazio in the Europa League which he reckoned was the reason that there were no further goals from the visitors in that second half. The Aberdeen manager was thankful for small mercies.

But the Norwegian international, on loan for the season from Southampton, reckons that there is going to be more and even better shows from the Glasgow Celtic as this season progresses.

“We can get better because relationships between the players on the pitch are improving. Offensively, we have some good players and we are showing some good combinations.

“Tom Rogic came in and was brilliant. He found me twice for two of the goals.

“Boli Bolingoli and I were linking up along with James Forrest and Jeremie Frimpong on the other side. The relations are important and when you know where players are going to be it is a lot easier to play one-twos or play through. We’ll get better with more games.

“In the end you only want the three points, but we want to score as many goals as possible too. It could be that goal difference will be important at the end.

“We just go out and try to score as many goals as possible and to win the games,” Elyounoussi said to the Media after the impressive away day victory, as reported by Scottish Sun.

“The first-half performance is up there at the top, as well as Ross County last week. Both were good games and we just tried to do our best to please everyone and get the win.

“We created some chances, we scored quick goals and in the second half we wanted more. But Aberdeen are a tough team. They fought well and we are just happy with the three points.

“It was a nice win and we scored some really good goals. For the third, James scored and we showed a different type of play.

“Jeremie was great and defensively we were strong,” Elyounoussi said. “We played well against Lazio on Thursday, but we also remembered what happened the last time after a European game when we lost at Livingston.

“Every team in the league wants to beat Celtic. Every game is tough. Aberdeen had fresh legs and we knew it would be difficult. The Livingston game was in the back of our heads, but we just wanted to win and do our best.”
