And the Irishman wasted no time in making his first move as the Pars gaffer by delving into his contact book to give the former Celtic midfield star a call with a view to a quick-fire return to Scotland to spearhead the Dunfermline fight against relegation.

Queen’s Park reportedly interested in Wanyama

Callum Davidson at Queen’s Park with be left disappointed as he too was in the running to bring Victor back to Glasgow. But having starred for Neil Lennon at Celtic and scoring the opening goal in that historic 2012 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League, Victor Wanyama was always going to favour a Celtic re-union in Fife.

Victor is a free agent after leaving CF Montreal in January

The 33 year-old Kenyan international won two titles at Celtic before moving to Southampton and then Tottenham. He has been a free agent since leaving CF Montreal in January so is available for a move outside of the transfer window. And STV report that a medical at East End Park has now been arranged and if that progresses without a hitch then Victor Wanyama should be in the Dunfermline squad for the game on Saturday against Scott Brown’s Ayr United.

Neil Lennon knows exactly the qualities that a top professional like Victor Wanyama will bring to his Dunfermline side and it looks like a brilliant move to help retain Dunfermline’s status in the Championship this season and thereafter to win a permanent contract for the former Celtic manager.
