It is hard to believe that five years have elapsed since Moussa Dembele inspired the Hoops to a famous 5-1 victory in the Glasgow Derby. For Moussa, Scott Sinclair, Dorus de Vries, Kolo Toure and manager Brendan Rodgers, the match was their first taste of such an occasion. It didn’t disappoint!
After a tense opening, Dembele powered Celtic into the lead with a towering header in the 33rd minute. Ten minutes later, the Frenchman made it 2-0 with a cool right footed finish after leaving Philippe Senderos in his wake.
Joe Garner briefly restored hope for the away side before half time, but Scott Sinclair put paid to that notion with an exquisite goal on the hour mark.
Having restored their two goal lead, Celtic coasted through the game until Senderos’ red card sparked things into life in the 75th minute. The Hoops then quickly pressed home their numerical advantage as Dembele completed a perfect hat-trick with a phenomenal left footed shot.
At 4-1, it really was party time but Celtic weren’t finished there. Substitute Stuart Armstrong still had to make his mark and the former Dundee United man rounded off the scoring in additional time with a well aimed strike from just inside the box.
The Dembelition Derby was complete!
