Celtic drawn against Lazio, Rennes and a revenge mission with Cluj in Europa League

CELTIC have this afternoon been drawn in Group E in the Europa League alongside Lazio, Rennes (who we played in the rare-season friendly last month) and Romanian Champions Cluj who put Celtic out of the Champions League.

Celtic are the Pot 2 side with Italian giants Lazio coming out of Pot 1,  French Cup winners Rennes from Pot 3 and Cluj from the 4th Pot. Celtic played Rennes in the Europa League in 2011, drawing 1-1 in Brittany before winning 3-1 at Celtic Park. The Cluj side won 4-3 at Celtic Park recently after the sides drew 1-1 in Romania.

The Hoops booked their place in fine style in Stockholm last night, defeating the Swedish Champions 4-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate.

Celtic have qualified from the Europa League Group stages in the previous two seasons before losing to Zenit St Petersburg and then Valencia in the knock-out rounds.

Neil Lennon will be hoping to go deeper into the competition this season.

The six Group stage games will take place on the following dates and the details on who we’ll play and when, plus the kick-off times (Europa League has two kick-off times, the 6pm and 8pm starts) and we’ll have this information on The Celtic Star as soon as possible, with UEFA stating that this information will be available 2 hours after the draw ceremony concludes.

The Rangers have been drawn in Group G against Porto, Young Boys and Feyenoord.
