Ex-Celt pays Rising Star Huge Compliment

Paddy McCourt has taken to Twitter to express his admiration for one of Celtic’s rising stars. The Derry City Head of Youth has been impressed with what he has seen from Jeremie Frimpong after he performed well again for the Celts.

The 18-year-old Dutch right-back started ahead of Hatem Abd Elhamed and Moritz Bauer for the Scottish Champions as they dispatched Hibs 5-2 in yesterday’s Betfred Cup semi-final. McCourt said that Frimpong could develop into a top class player.

Being described as a ‘proper modern day fullback’ is a huge compliment for the youngster, especially considering the fact that he can attack with such ease but is also reliable at the back.

Frimpong joined Celtic on a four-year deal from Manchester City’s Development side this summer and his development in Glasgow has been rapid. Frimpong’s debut against Partick Thistle left fans purring. A league debut versus Ross County had the fans on their feet as the right-back attacked down the right wing. In his second league start at Pittodrie, he was frightening against one of the league’s most experienced wingers, Niall McGinn – scoring in the process.

McCourt, 35, signed for Celtic in 2008 and spent five years in Glasgow. McCourt plied his trade in England after leaving Celtic before returning to Northern Ireland.
