Taylor Standby for Rome as Bolingoli Struggles

Greg Taylor is ready to step up in Rome when Celtic face Lazio on Thursday after Boli Bolingoli was removed in yesterday’s Betfred Cup semi-final at half-time. After sitting out the 5-2 win at Hampden due to being cup-tied, the defender could be in line for his European debut.

Manager Neil Lennon confirmed that the Belgian left-back was struggling to make the trip to the Italian capital ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie.

Taylor, 21, made his impressive debut in the 2-0 win over St. Mirren last Wednesday and is in line to start when the Champions go toe-to-toe with the Italians in Rome.

Due to Bolingoli’s levels of performance, Taylor has struggled to break into the side, even places on the bench have been hard to come by as the versatile Jonny Hayes offers the ability to play at left-back or across either wing. Taylor has played just once since signing from Kilmarnock at the end of the summer transfer window, arriving for over £2 million.

Celtic won the reverse fixture at Celtic Park last month after a late Christopher Jullien goal but off the pitch, tensions between both sets of fans are expected to be high after political displays by both fans at Celtic Park last week.
