Four Celtic Men – Common Denominator and further Ferocious Feedback

OUR Four Celtic Men article from earlier this week has undoubtedly had a huge reaction among the Celtic support around the World – and one of the four, Harry Brady on Celtic Underground last night added to his earlier missive, this time to shine a light on the money that Peter Lawwell has earned from the club, and crucially the club’s turnover in comparison, in his time in charge of our club.

You can and really should read what Harry Brady has to say in his latest article, THE COST OF THE COMMON DENOMINATOR – HERE.

We promised that you could have your say and we asked that you either sign up and post on the new Celtic fans forum, independently run, free from board influence with no circling the the wagons, Celtic Noise, or to send us an email to editor@thecelticstar.co.uk and we’d do our best to publish your opinion on The Celtic Star.

We have already published two articles, one last night and another earlier this morning, and we have been receiving your replies all day. Here’s the latest batch…

FINANCIAL GULF

Buy some real quality players to enhance the team or we will never make a dent in Europe. New players need to be scouted early and bedded into the team, not late and sitting on the bench because they are not up to speed.

The league maybe our bread and butter but Rangers should be nowhere near Celtic with the financial gulf and yet they are at the minute. This must be addressed or risk losing the league and not just Champions League money.

ONLINE ABUSE

I’m on the home ticket scheme so my money comes out of my bank so it’s no use me boycotting the game. I wouldn’t anyway, but the whole club will need to have a serious look at themselves as to how it is being run from top to bottom.

I made my feelings known about Tuesday game and got abuse online from a supporter which was not called for as I’m entitled to my opinion. In my view Lennon was to blame for Tuesday but the board are as bad so I’m a bit apprehensive about posting anything online.

ROCK ON TOMMY

Let’s listen to what Tommy Sheridan has to say as he comes to the defence of Neil Lennon and points out that we’ve had the best start to a season since 1971! Sure doesn’t feel like it Tommy…

MY ROMANIAN WIFE

As soon as I saw the team news I knew what was going to happen. My wife is Romanian and loves Celtic but is also in shock. Absolute disgrace. I’ve never said bad things about the team I love but enough is enough and Rangers are loving it.

BONUS PAYMENTS

Been reading all about Peter Lawell’s bonuses over the years. Okay, we were winning all the domestic trophies but we were abysmal in Europe. So why has he received so much in bonus payments? And what the hell would his bonus have been if we had qualified to the CL Group stage!

SHOPPING LIST

Very concerned about what’s going on at Celtic Park just now. Yeah we don’t have right to success, sure but why do we never strengthen from strong positions?

We have known for a number of years now that we have had to fill in our defence in certain areas, still not rectified. Is it just me or are we crying out for someone who can tackle in the middle of the park, a digger? I fear if we don’t sign anyone in this area we could get run out of it at Ibrox and this year more than any we have to put up a performance there.

There are still positive so Mr Lawwell and Mr Lennon, communicate and redeem yourselves in getting another Right Back and Left Back, Centre Midfielder and Out and Out Striker and maybe the fans will get behind you in our quest to equal our record of 9 in row.

A VERY DIFFICULT SEASON

I read the article with interest, I was surprised at some of the content, particularly the allegation that the CEO left Celtic without a functioning Director of Recruitment for a period of 3 months in order to receive a compensation payment from Leicester City.
If indeed, this is the case, then surely the CEO is guilty of negligence.

I have my own thoughts on Mr. Lawwell, while I have defended him on occasion, when I thought the criticism being directed at him was a bit harsh, I still have my reservations about him.
For one thing, he has a massive ego and it seems to be affecting his agility to perform his role professionally.

I know a few people who have had dealings with him and they confirm my suspicion.

If he is interfering with the football side of the club, it would make a few things a lot clearer to understand.

History will tell you, when a club owner/CEO starts interfering in team matters it ends in disaster for the club.

I sincerely hope a solution can be found, if this is indeed the case.

Otherwise, we are in for a very difficult season.

THE GATHERING STORM

The gathering storm of protest against Peter Lawwell has been coming for some time.

I have been a supporter of his “canny” handling of the finances at Celtic. However, I think he has lost sight of the reason Celtic exists. First and foremost, it is a football club. As a business, the books need to be balanced, but every business needs to invest and sadly Peter Lawwell has become all too powerful and appears to want to control every aspect of running Celtic Football Club and the Plc.

I, like every other Celtic fan am angry, disappointed an feel let down by those who run the club. Yes, Neil Lennon made the mistake of playing McGregor at left back and failed to close the game down at 3- 2.

However, the fact that Boli and Julien were on the bench in such an important game raised very serious questions as to what is going on behind the scenes. Who is recruiting and how much input does the Manager have in the recruitment process?

I am intent on cancelling my HCTS membership. I’m a shareholder and I’ve been a season book holder for best part of 30 years uninterrupted but I refuse to continue to plough into that scheme without some transparency and accountability from those that are supposed to be leading our club.

NOT PROUD OF THAT

Over 3 years ago I took the decision not to give Celtic another penny whilst Lawwell remained. To give you an idea of the size of that decision, I am someone who attended ‘the boycott game’. For those who remember the night, there was a second protest ‘back the team. Sack the board, who advocated leave after 60 minutes to show our discontent.

I along with a handful of others saw the final whistle. In hindsight I’m not proud of that.

I had a season ticket for some 25 years, I was on the home cup scheme, and either spent, or had spent on me a four figure sum in the club shop. Friends and family all said I was the easiest person to buy gifts for at Christmas or birthdays, Celtic books, DVDs, CDs, watches, tops, limited edition stuff etc etc.

I have watched the budget of the playing staff cut year on year since Lawwell became CEO, watched cheap options be appointed as managers, we all joked that if a player or manager was out of contract then it was the ideal price for the CEOs budget.

He oversaw Mowbray, Lennon, Deila’s appointments, but when Peter Lawwell promised the fans action over Resolution 12 and failed to deliver that was the final straw for me. This man took approximately £67,000 per week last season!! For what? Selling Dembele and Armstrong!

This year will be similar for selling Tierney. Might even top it up by punting N’tcham and McGregor! This man earns 3 times the top players wages at a FOOTBALL club. He has no regards for the paying public, when he goes he will be set for life leaving behind Res 12 and probably end up in some cushy UEFA job where he will vote to further alienate smaller leagues because it will increase his bank balance.

A TOTAL SHAMBLES

Personally I fully supported both Peter and Neil, but following the UCL exit I’m afraid enough is enough, and I’ll explain why.

Iron fist tactics/management are obsolete but it seems if anyone argued with Peter Lawwell, you are sacked or become history. With no strategy, no succession planning, no director of football, no players, no proper scouting system, lack of decent back room staff, in simple English, our club behind the scenes is a total shambles.

Who is the accountable party for signing new players, because the manager should have the final say on all new signings? Peter Lawwell’s role should be to ensure final contracts are in place. Fans need to be made aware of what’s happening. Not the secrecy.

Peter Lawwell’s contract should be terminated immediately for allowing the club to be in such distress, even with finances for new players being readily available, there are no excuses.

Neil Lennon should have demanded his own coaching staff and not inherited John Kennedy and Damian Duff. John Kennedy has become a major liability to the club and Damien Duff does not have the required credentials.

Neil Lennon and his coaching staff should be sacked for the Champions League exit on Tuesday evening, simple as that.

Team selection and tactics were wrong and totally incorrect.

Now the question all the fans want to know, who is responsible for Boli & Julien signings because they also should be dismissed.

The sell by dates on CEO, manager, coaching staff has now expired. Time for changes is now upon us and urgent.

I am sure the Green Brigade banners will be unfurled ASAP
