‘We’ve got a squad we can be very excited about,’ Forster eyes Europa League glory

FRASER FORSTER spoke to the media this afternoon and talked up Celtic’s chances of doing very well in the Europa League this season. He was busy promoting the home tickets for the three games that start next Thursday when Cluj are back in Glasgow looking to do more damage – surely lightening won’t strike twice! Revenge is a dish best served with 60,000 Hoops fans there to roar our approval – it’s going to be some night!

“Everyone knows how special it is here, and under the lights on a European night at Celtic Park, it’s one of those occasions I can’t wait for,” Forster said. He was promoting the Three Match package for the Europa League and given the impressive start to the season – apart from one night against Cluj – then surely we can get 60,000 in for these matches.

The first one a week on Thursday is of course a chance for revenge against the Romanians and that surely has got to be a compete sell-out? Forster looked back on the opener against Rennes last week and is happy enough with an away point that sets Celtic up nicely in what is expected to be a very tight group.

“It’s always good to get a point away from home. We’ve got off the mark and got the ball rolling, and looking at the rest of the group there’s no reason why we can’t be really positive and try to pick up a lot of points,” the Celtic keeper stated.

“We’ve got a squad we can be very excited about. I think the new lads have all settled quickly and that’s all credit to the lads who’ve been here for a few years. They’ve made it really easy and it’s like I’ve never been away.”

Forster knows from vivid personal memories of his first set of European adventures playing for this ‘Fairytale’ club, just how important the Celtic fans are in creating that extra-special atmosphere that the players thrive on. And he admitted that he’s always enjoyed a tremendous relationship with the support.

“It’s been a fantastic relationship I’ve had with the fans here. It’s something very special and something I really cherish.

“I can’t wait. Everyone knows how special it is here, and under the lights on a European night at Celtic Park, it’s one of those occasions I can’t wait for,” Forster said.

Looking back at the weekend’s win over Kilmarnock which of course featured his penalty save after Scott Brown was judged to have fouled the Kilmarnock midfielder Power, the Englishman reckoned that the team played really well as it goes up the gears towards these big European nights.

“The most important thing was the three points. In the second-half especially, we were bang on it. As I say, it’s nice to save a penalty and contribute to the team performance.”
