Who is signing Maryan Shved and is Trouble Brewing in Paradise?

If The Celtic manager was pleased with the performance his mood was slightly different when talking about the strange circumstances that surround the move to bring in Maryan Shved, the Karpaty Lviv winger.

Brendan admitted that he knows very little about the Ukrainian winger and stated that if Maryan Shved is signed he’d loan him out again straight away as Celtic have already got a million wingers!

Maryan Shved it seems is another target that the club rather than the manager are working on, something that happened in the summer when young Daniel Arzani was signed.

Earlier in this week we gave you some information that Celtic were closing in on a pre-contract deal with Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa – see that story HERE. Last night at the game someone told me that on another site, one that I don’t read incidentally, a poster on there stated that he had posted the Iorfa information ahead of The Celtic Star and that he believed it to be reliable.

His source could have been the same as ours so it was one source passing on the same dud info to two parties, or it could be two separate sources who knows.

But when Brendan was asked about the interest in Iorfa he told reporters that ‘it was not one that I’m aware of’ and we all thought that was that.

After the developments over the last 24 hours regarding the club rather than the manager about to sign a second player this season in Maryan Shved, then the question we have is perhaps someone at Celtic is talking to Iorfa after all, and it’s not the manager!

Here’s what Brendan said last night about the probable Shved signing.

“The CLUB have been in contact with Maryan’s representatives and he’s a talented young player for the future.

“THEY will look to get the deal done and he’ll probably be out on loan and in during the summer.

“It’s something that’s COME TO THE CLUB through circumstance. He’s been watched and looked at but I can’t say I know a great deal about him.

“But what I have seen he’s a talent and something that will probably benefit the club in the future. We’ve got about a million wingers and don’t need another one.

“But he’s a talent and in the summer we’ll probably lose wingers and he’ll look to come in.”

There’s plenty to worry about in all of that. The Celtic blogger James Forrest picked up on this last night and is right to flag up his profound concerns about what he describes as the non footballing department at the club signing players – AGAIN.

Look at it this was Brendan wanted John McGinn – result? Peter didn’t get the deal done as he haggled over the many then lost out to Aston Villa.

Peter wanted Daniel Arzani – who looked a real player when he came on as a sub at Dens Park before getting injured in the same game. Peter got his player.

Brendan wants a right back. Nothing doing so far.

Peter wants Shved, another winger, despite the manager having priorities elsewhere (ie in defence). Money is tight, Celtic are cautious, so why spend money on a player that won’t play this season and will then have stiff competition if and when he comes back given there are ‘a million’ ahead of him?

Does his transfer fee come out of the pot which means we won’t get the money spent on the defence?

The biggest danger is that Brendan Rodgers won’t accept this interference in the football department and walks in the summer. If that happens there is going to be Trouble in Paradise.
