Celtic ‘loan target’ McTominay signs new deal at Manchester United

Scott McTominay today signed a contract extension with Manchester United which will keep him at Old Trafford to at least June 2023. The English giants also have the option to sign for a further year.

Last week interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer squashed rumours that Celtic were about to sign the Scotland midfielder on a loan deal and Brendan Rodgers also distanced himself from the story. Reports in the media claimed that Celtic were ‘locked in talks’ with Man Utd about a lion move for the player, but this seems to have been well wide of the mark.

McTominay was regarded as being Jose Mourinho’s ‘pet player’ so was therefore likely to struggle to get the first team under the popular Norwegian.

Solskjaer revealed last week that work was being done on a new deal for McTominay and that has now been concluded.

Aberdeen were also linked with a loan move for the Manchester United player, who looks like remaining at Old Trafford for a number of years ahead.
